1) When was Celebration Forest founded and why?

Celebration Forest was founded in 1995 for three reasons. First, we wanted to offer a service to individuals who cared as much for the environment as we did, an opportunity to dedicate a living memorial for someone special in their lives. Second, we wanted family members to be able to visit their actual memorial tree by assigning each tree a specific grove number. And finally, we wanted to create permanent forest preserves by planting strong and healthy young trees that would never be used for harvest or development.

2) Why is Celebration Forest's memorial program better than other programs offered today?

Celebration Forest's memorial program is based around the fact that we are creating permanent forest preserves where families can visit their actual memorial tree. Each tree is assigned a grove number and planted on a designated spot within the forest. When families come to visit Celebration Forest, they can easily find their tree by locating the column and row number listed on their Certificate of Dedication. And, because we will never open the forest for harvest or development, your memorial tree will be around for future generations to see your living legacy.

Other "Somewhere Programs" are based around the idea that they will take your money and have a tree planted on federal or state land "somewhere" in the state of your choice. With these programs, you never know when or where your tree was planted.

3) Where will my tree be located?

Currently, we are creating the Bear Butte Grove located 10 miles north of Sandpoint in north Idaho. Each tree is assigned a grove number consisting of a column and row number, as listed on the Certificate of Dedication, so you can easily locate your tree when you come to visit the forest.

4) Do you have any other groves besides the one in north Idaho?

Not yet. When the Bear Butte Grove in north Idaho approaches completion, we will look to other areas of the United States to begin creating a new grove. Eventually, we plan to have a grove in every state in the United States as well as some around the world.

5) Is the forest easy to find?

The forest is extremely easy to locate and has a large sign at the entrance. Simply follow the driving directions listed on our Forest Map page.

6) When can I visit my tree?

You are welcome to visit your tree any time, including weekends and holidays. The forest is open year-round, although the best time to visit is June through November. During the winter, the forest is usually covered in snow and the walk may be difficult.

7) What if my tree dies?

The first two years are the most important in the development of the tree. We plant the Spruce and Pine trees when they are 2-3 feet tall and the Maple and Oak trees when they are 6-12 feet tall. Because the trees are so large when planted in Celebration Forest, their survival rate is exceptional. However, if the tree does not take to the soil within the first two years, we will replace it free of charge.

8) What does the price of the tree include?

The price of each tree covers the cost of raising and nurturing each tree to assure it is established, as well as protecting the tree for it's lifetime. Each tree comes with a FREE standard package, which includes a Certificate of Dedication, a grove number, a two-year guarantee, and a listing on our Memory Lane page on the website. Other additional packages and memorial items are available and are listed on the Trees and Gifts page.

13) When will my tree be planted?

Most of the trees in Celebration Forest are pre-planted in the spring and are sold through the summer, autumn and winter months. This way, you are able to visit your tree the same year in which it was dedicated. However, in the instance that all of the pre-planted trees are sold, your tree will be planted the following Spring.

14) Why do you offer only four types of trees?

We chose the Spruce, Pine, Maple and Oak trees because of their beauty, long-life and benefit to surrounding wildlife. These four types of trees are very hardy and grow well in the climate and environment of north Idaho.
